Out with the Old and In with the New -- Classroom Remodeling
by Katie Baumgarn
For the past few years we have been remodeling, upgrading, and
giving a new look to several of our older classrooms. Since last
May, there have been nearly 152 classroom projects ranging from
the replacement of electric projection screens and painting to
major room remodeling. Additional end of the year funding will
allow us to continue with classroom improvements and media equipment
upgrades for another 30 rooms this summer.
Some of the bigger classroom projects this summer are:
- Marston 207: New lighting, window treatments, media equipment,
and air conditioning! This auditorium holds 258 and is
the last of our large auditoriums to receive air conditioning!
- Town 202/296: Removing a wall between the two rooms to create
a larger classroom. The new capacity will be 52. There will also
be new seating, flooring, paint, media equipment, and window treatments.
- Pearson 205: Upgraded last summer with new media technology
and this summer will receive new flooring, seating and window
treatments. The new seating arrangement will change the room capacity
from 84 to 102!
- Science 102: A major remodeling including the removal of a
small teaching stage, new flooring, seating, and new media equipment.
- Gilman 1652: Was an old, rundown small auditorium in need
of a face lift. This room will have 100 new seats, new flooring,
freshly painted walls and ceiling. The media upgrade occurred
last summer. This room is close to completion and it looks great!
Stop by and take a look before classes start this fall.
- Coover 102-106: Air conditioning of these five general university
classrooms. Room 102 will also have media equipment installed
for computer video display capabilities. (We rescheduled this
project for over Christmas break due to the current time limitations.)
As you can see, there is a lot of work to be completed by August
23, just in time for the start of fall classes. I would like to
extend my thanks to the shops that are working on these
classroom projects. I truly appreciate the dedication they give
toward the completion of these projects. Thanks for all of your
help!!!
