Retirements

A retirement reception honoring Bill Thompson was on February 29, 2000, at the Reiman Gardens. Bill has worked for ISU for 25 years and made a large contribution toward the beautiful appearance of the Iowa State campus. The reception was attended by more than 120 coworkers, family, and friends from inside and outside of the university community. He was presented with a plaque, an ISU coat, a handcrafted wheelbarrow, and a gift certificate from his coworkers. He received many other gifts and well wishes from friends. We will miss Bill a lot, but wish him a long and enjoyable retirement.

Elaine Westphal retired from Design Services on March 10. The design group treated Elaine to a goodbye lunch on February 25 (in conjunction with Cindy Hofmockel’s last day). On March 10, Elaine received cards and gift certificates to Red Lobster and Holub’s from her coworkers.

A Fisherman’s Prayer
submitted by Dick Reckseen

God, grant that I may live to fish until my dying day --
and when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray --
when in the Lord’s safe landing net and I’m peacefully asleep --
that in His mercy I be judged big enough to keep.
