SCHEDULED : Memorial Union Parking Facility (Ramp) Closure Notice
AFFECTED PARKING LOT # & LOCATION: Levels G through Level 4 CLOSED for Construction -- Levels E and B are open to MU Ramp Permit holders.
WHY: Construction includes the installation of Traffic Topping to Levels 1-2-3.
SCHEDULED START: Wed. 9-28-05, 5:00 P.M.
SCHEDULED COMPLETION: Mon./Tues. 10-10-05 or 10-11-05 (Weather dependent)

Parking Ramp Construction Update:
In the Memorial Union Ramp, work with a top coating material is being affected by both rain and cold temperatures, causing unpredictable delays. The situation is distressing and we share your frustration.
Updated Timeline:
All levels except E & B were closed on Thursday, Sept. 29 and they will likely be closed through October 10 or 11.
For MU Ramp permit holders:
MU Ramp permit holders may park on levels E & B until portions of Levels 1- 4 re-open.
TODAY thru FRIDAY [and possibly Monday & Tuesday]: if space is not available on levels E or B in the MU ramp, parking with no penalty is available at the Iowa State Center Commuter Student Parking Lots until 10:00 p.m. daily, provided your MU permit is displayed.
If student MU parking permit holders need overnight parking after 10 pm the car must be relocated to stadium parking lots S2-S8. On Oct 8 for Family Weekend, parking is not allowed at the stadium. In either case, an MU parking permit must be visible so that DPS knows why a vehicle is there.
After 5 p.m. Friday night until 7:30 a.m. Monday morning, University Parking System allows for open parking in areas on campus as designated by signage at each lot. If a parking ticket is received, please follow the appeal process, stating why the ticket was received.
A refund plan for permit holders who have been unable to find a parking place is being developed.
For the general public:
TODAY thru FRIDAY [and possibly Monday & Tuesday]: With the ramp closure, there is no parking available Mon-Fri to the general public. Alternative for Monday - Friday: Iowa State Center parking lot with access to the CyRide Orange Route that runs frequently to the main campus.
WEEKEND: Alternative parking may be available in the East Parking Deck located near Union Drive and Wallace Road and in the parking lot immediately east of it. Most of the parking on campus opens Friday at 5:30pm and is available to visitors without a permit all day Saturday and Sunday. Exceptions are handicap spaces or parking spaces with a sign that says "permit required all hours all days".
Additional information about the project:
After the parking ramp re-opens on or about October 10-11, the situation will become better as portions of Levels 1 through 4 will be open.
There will be at least one more multi-day closure while work is being completed on the exit spiral. This will close the entire ramp, but will be planned for a time when demand is down (such as Thanksgiving break).
The project is scheduled to be completed in late November.
Please inform/share information regarding this SCHEDULED parking lot closure with others in your building or department to assure that we have the input of all affected faculty/staff.
