Please read
the general guidelines:

All
express/overnight packages must be received by 4 pm if they are
to go out the same day. Items that are hand delivered to
Postal & Parcel Services after 4 pm may be dispatched the
next working day, as our carriers can arrive any time after
that.

Include a
green mail instruction card with each package going to a single
address. Be sure to fill out ALL the information on the
card, including contents and value. Shipments with multiple packages to one address
only need one card, but please mark each piece Box 1 of 3, 2 of
3, etc. Every piece should be labeled with both the
sender's and recipient's address.

Package
shipping requires time for courier documentation preparation.
If you intend to bring more than three packages for express
shipment, please notify us before noon the day you wish to send
the packages. Please give us the opportunity to work with
you to meet your shipping needs.

Shipments with hazardous
materials must be cleared through Environmental Health &
Safety BEFORE being brought to Postal & Parcel. Dry
ice is considered hazardous. Contact Steve Ziegenfuss at
294-7417 to discuss hazardous shipping and complete the
correct paperwork.

The US
Postal Service is the only carrier that can deliver items to a
Post Office box.
-
The first $100 of liability coverage for
express packages is free (automatic) with all four carriers.
Beyond that, the cost of coverage varies depending on the comapny.
Keep in mind that,
should damage occur, the carriers will only reimburse you
for the actual value of your shipment. Items like
documents or plane tickets are paper and have little to no
actual value, regardless of how much you paid for them.
FedEx
If you are filling out
your own airbill, please be sure to include all the
required information. We receive the bill for
hundreds of packages sent from campus, it is vital that all the
correct information is included in order to accurately charge
each department. We are happy to fill out the airbill for
you, simply send a completed green mail instruction card with
your package. Tracking
information for packages can be emailed directly to you - just
include your email address on the mail instruction card.

DHL
After merging with Airborne, DHL Express service is now available through our office.
All shipments formerly sent as Airborne express will now be
shipped with DHL. Fill out an express mail instruction card and submit it with
your package. Tracking information is automatically sent
to the contact person of the barcode number the package was sent
on.

You are billed for either the actual weight or the
dimensional weight, whichever is greater.
- Dimensional weight can be calculated by taking the W x L
x H divided by 194.

Weight is rounded up to the nearest pound

Maximum dimensions - 56" x 36" x 25"
- No single dimension greater than
56"
- Round all dimensions up to the
nearest inch
- Multi-piece shipments have no total
weight limits
"Shipment Value Protection":
- Shipment value protection costs $2.75 per 100 dollars of coverage purchased.
- DHL will not cover anything being returned for repairs.
- In order to purchase more than $5,000 of coverage for a package, DHL must be contacted ahead of time.
- DHL will not cover or transport any of the following "restricted/prohibited items":
- Any article classified as hazardous material, dangerous goods, prohibited or restricted articles
by the DOT (Department of transportation), TSA (Transportation Security Administration), IATA
(International Air Transport Association), or any applicable government agency or other relevant organization;
- Animals; articles of extraordinary value such as but not limited to bullion, currency, bearer form negotiable instruments,
fine jewelry, precious metals and stones; firearms, parts thereof and ammunition; human remains; pornography and
illegal narcotics/drugs;
- Alcoholic beverages, such as but not limited to liquor, wine, or beer;
- Cigarettes, cigars, and tobacco products;
- Perishable or temperature-sensitive articles or articles requiring protection from heat or cold; or biological
products and diagnostic specimens, such as but not limited to blood, urine, tissue, and tissue fluids.
UPS
United Parcel Service packages can also be shipped from our
office. On the green Express Services mail instruction
card, choose the appropriate service for your needs and attach
it to your package for our distributors to pick up.
An important tip: If you
are planning to send a Next Day package to a destination in
Iowa, UPS Ground service will guarantee it to be there the
next (business) day. This can help you avoid expensive
shipping costs! Services Available:

"Declared Value":
- Coverage costs $0.80 per $100, maximum of $50,000.
- UPS will not cover perishable items or goods.

Postal
Service - US Express & Global Express
US Express and Global Express mail are available through the
USPS. For destinations with only a PO Box address, you
must use this service.
Because the Post Office
delivers mail on Saturdays, there is no Saturday Delivery fee
for using their express service.
US Express service will
generally guarantee a package to be there the next day, though
2nd day delivery may be the fastest option for more rural areas.
You can use the

time for a package (based on zip code).
