Ayodeji Oluwalana

Recycling and Special Events Coordinator

Ayodeji’s passion for recycling and sustainability is evident the moment you meet him. He will surely engage you in lively conversation about your thoughts on the current recycling program at Iowa State University, including, how he can work toward improving the recycling program.

Ayodeji became part of Facilities Planning and Management (FPM) department at Iowa State in June 2018 as the Recycling and Special Events Coordinator from Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado. Before becoming full-time staff at Western, he was a Student Campus Sustainability Coordinator in charge of the quantification of solid waste generation and diversion, as well as composting activities. Ayodeji later transitioned to be the Sustainability Coordinator in charge of waste management at Western where he was involved in setting up the zero-waste program, with the goal of making the university a zero-waste campus by the year 2020.

He brings with him a wealth of sustainable and leadership experiences in the areas of community-level waste mitigation and diversion. Engaging and working with students on sustainability-related topics is fun for him, which is handy for his role at Iowa State. When he is not working, he spends quality time with his family and enjoys playing and watching soccer.
