Recycling Today at Iowa State
Today, Iowa State Recycling Services offers 4 services:
- single stream recycling
- corrugated cardboard recycling
- laboratory glass recycling
- confidential document destruction
In 2015, recycling at Iowa State switched from “white paper only” recycling to “single stream” recycling making recycling easier. Single stream recycling allows for a variety of recyclable materials to be placed in a single recycling bin rather than sorting into multiple bins. Campus-wide single stream recycling is offered to all students, faculty and staff in campus academic and residential buildings.
In 2012, the laboratory glass recycling was started as a partnership coordinated among Facilities Planning and Management, Environmental Health and Safety, the Office of Sustainability, and the City of Ames. The program focused on diverting all laboratory glass waste from the community’s waste stream.
