Description:
I was asked to submit a project request to establish an estimate of cost, timeline and overall feasibility of requested project. The PI and Dept chair would like me to obtain even a broad estimate quickly in order to facilitate other discussions and planning related to the relocation of equipment. A brief discussion of this proposed project in the near term would help me greatly Overview: The MSE dept is attempting to bring together additive manufacturing and related equipment in a central lab space. The only area Engineering could offer us at this time is a computer classroom (Hoover 2268) located behind other computer labs. The room is a challenging space to convert into a lab space dealing with large laboratory and metal printing equipment, specific electrical demands and other utilities and supplies. The room access is also an issue as at least one of the pieces of equipment will require more than a normal door width. The stated required height of one of the instruments poses a further challenge. Electrical requirements: Freemelt – 3 phase, 16 Amp, 400 Volt, Transformer 15 kVA, 22A, 380V, Y (wye) configuration Install document states the transformers that meet these requirements are ; a. TEMco Euro Standard Transformer TT1021 – 15 kVA b. Marcus Transformer MTH15H6-20 But that other transformers may be used as per install document Additional connection details in install document. Powder Bead Fusion system – single phase, 12.5 amp, 230volt Other listed equipment at this time states 120v15A service but I am currently unsure of the total current requirements for the 120V service to the room. Space requirements: Most of the issues with the space requirements are tied to the Freemelt system. The size of the equipment is 6.1 ft deep by 7.38 ft wide by 9.28 ft tall. clearance for operation according to the install document is 21 ft long, and 12.79 ft tall for “Instillation Service.” The ceiling is 9 ft 8 Inches

The MSE dept is attempting to bring together additive manufacturing and related equipment in a central lab space. The Engineering in now offering Hoover 1233 The room will need a wider door access, we are suggesting the south door. Removal of carpet. No need for additional furniture Electrical requirements: Freemelt – 3 phase, 16 Amp, 400 Volt, Transformer 15 kVA, 22A, 380V, Y (wye) configuration Install document states the transformers that meet these requirements are ; a. TEMco Euro Standard Transformer TT1021 – 15 kVA b. Marcus Transformer MTH15H6-20 But that other transformers may be used as per install document Additional connection details in install document. This may not need to be left open after equipment install.
