"Class of 2006. On September 8, 2005 a tornado touched down on Central Campus, destroying over 70 trees and damaging hundreds more including a state record Scarlet Oak tree that was located on this site. A new Scarlet Oak tree now stands here, as part of the 2006 Class Gift, which financed the purchase of over one hundred replacement trees and provided the funding to reclaim the wood from the downed trees for use by College of Design students in the creation of art and furniture for campus buildings."
