Plaque Text

Dave Hanna was born on May 10, 1943 in Forest City, Iowa and lived most of his life in Boone, Iowa. He passed away on September 3, 2021 in Laclede, MO, where he had moved after retiring in 2014. He was married for over 59 years to Nancy Hanna, who worked for Iowa State University for 35 years. He had 3 children, Dana, Michael (Mike) and Julee, and 10 grandchildren, all of who he adored. Dave spent countless hours watching baseball, softball, basketball, football, dance recitals, plays and concerts.

Dave was an avid Cyclone fan and had season tickets for Cyclone basketball. He witnessed a lot of Hilton Magic. His wife and children shared in his love of the Cyclones as did most of his grandchildren, many of who graduated from Iowa State. When Dave had heart surgery and later a pacemaker put in, like former Cyclone basketball player and coach Fred Hoiberg, Fred reached out to Dave and they formed a friendship. It meant the world to Dave that Fred took the time to contact him and stay in touch over the course of his illness.

This Kentucky Coffeetree planted in Dave’s honor near Hilton is a fitting tribute to a kind, patient, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother -in-law, uncle and friend who worked hard and lived a good life. And will forever be a Cyclone.

This Coffeetree is also designated as ISU's Arbor Day Tree 2021.
