FP&M Update - Ongoing Construction Projects
• Administrative Services Building-HVAC System and Roof Replacement project is a capital renewal project to replace the leaking roof and aging heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system. The existing, stand-alone HVAC equipment will be relocated from the roof and installed in a new mechanical room alongside the building. Work on the new roof and installation of the new equipment will continue through early next year.
• Curtiss Farm-Feed Mill and Grain Science Complex project includes construction of a new feed mill and grain handling facility at the existing Iowa State University Curtiss Farm on State Avenue. The project will support teaching, research, and outreach activities, as well as serve as the feed production facility for the University’s multi-species operations. Construction is underway and completion is scheduled for this fall.
• Parking Lot 10 Expansion project will add an additional 66 parking stalls to the northwest corner of main campus. The project has been awarded and construction is underway with completion scheduled for this summer.
• Therkildsen Industrial Engineering Building is a new facility for the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering of the College of Engineering. The new building will include teaching and research labs, classrooms, and office space. The building is located along the north half of the existing Parking Lot 3. Construction is underway and is scheduled for completion before the end of 2024.
• Utilities-Power Plant-Coal Boilers Natural Gas Conversion project will convert two remaining coal-fired boilers in the university’s central cogeneration plant to natural gas-fired boilers, ending the use of coal by Iowa State University. The conversion includes modifying the boiler’s existing burners and fans, along with removing the auxiliary coal-handling systems. In addition, the project will restore two coal storage sites (east of Haber Road and adjacent to the plant). The first boiler is now using natural gas and work on the second boiler is underway and is scheduled for completion this fall.
• Veterinary Medicine-Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) project consists of the construction of a new, two-story, stand-alone building on the College of Veterinary Medicine campus. The new facility will serve the diagnostic medicine needs of Iowa’s livestock and poultry, pets and wildlife, and in the process, protect human health and support Iowa’s agricultural economy. In addition, the facility will address the increased space requirements for the laboratory, improve biocontainment, and enhance biosafety standards to protect employee and student health. Construction of the new VDL continues and is scheduled to be complete this fall.
