About 8-10yrs ago Nelson Construction was hired to build the 3rd Phase of our Alumni Donor wall on the east side of the building along the A2 parking lot. Lately we have had front edge limestone pieces that are adhered on and a few are coming loose so the adhesive is failing. One piece was glued back on last week by Country Landscapes but in the process it cracked in a couple spots and they don't necessarily want to be fixing these moving forward. I was hoping we could get a couple of these pieces from Nelson Construction or somewhere else to match and that way we have a spare piece or two plus I would like to replace the one that is cracked now as it doesn't look great. In the spring I would like to take a look at all of our downspouts coming off the roof of the boardroom and ballroom on the west side of the building. When I was cleaning them out this fall I noticed some joints where the caulking is wearing out or in some places completely gone and this might be contributing to some leaking we've had inside the building when we get hard rain. At least one drain is missing some metal flashing to direct the water away from the building that I would like to repair/replace as well.
**This can be on hold until Spring. I just wanted to get a project opened so we can get on it first thing after winter.**

College of Design Reading Room (111) and miscellaneous first floor office space (158, 158A)
In fall 2023, we had engaged the services of an architecture firm, DLR, to help us understand the potential scope of this project. This project scope is limited to interior remodeling on our first floor of the College of Design. In particular the scope includes the remodeling of critical spaces for our ongoing operations and course work. The biggest project is the remodeling the former "Reading Room" space (Parks Library is shutting down operations and moving stacks out of the space) into design studios/classrooms. The first phase of this project will not involve any major demolition, extensive interior partitions, or changes in lighting, electrical, HVAC, sprinkler, or plumbing. It will simply involve new furniture, finishes, and AV installations which we can accomplish working directly with FPM. Eventually, we may have more extensive remodeling, based on what we identify as our long term use needs for this space--again, with the assistance of an architectural firm.
There are other smaller miscellaneous interior remodeling projects to support our ongoing recruitment efforts (e.g., convert existing mailroom to open space space/waiting space for visitors, relocating mailroom elsewhere). Minimal changes in interior partitions and doors are necessary but not HVAC, electrical, sprinkler, etc. This will not require architectural services outside of the scope that FPM can provide.
Schedule Considerations
The ideal schedule for our Reading Room project m! ay not be possible--it depends, in part, on the timing of when Library will have all items moved out of our Reading room space (Room 111). Ideally if they move out by May, we can begin spending some of these funds towards the immediate reconfiguring of the space for our first phase of work. Fume Hood E032651 (floor-mounted) is alarming when any of the horizontal sash's are opened. I measure ~70 fpm, but sensor reads 0.
I think Dustin and I mostly spoke in person about it. We need the 2 floor-mounted fume hoods in EHSSB 1442 and 1441 to have their monitors replaced with controllers that measure airflow and adjust based on sidewall and/or sash sensors (i.e., whatever the other updated fumes hoods in the building have). Right now the monitors only measure airflow and give false alarms a lot of the time. Asset numbers for the fume hoods are E032651 (room 1441) and A-0000012119 (room 1442).
Note that if the amount goes over $5,000, the department may need to provide funding due to asset type.

1. We are hoping to have a small air compressor and air dryer installed in 0500 Office and Lab.
2. There are copper air lines from 0500 O&L into 1708 Gilman. There is currently nothing connected on either end.
3. I am hoping to extend the copper tubing from 1708 into 1702 to connect to an existing pressure manifold to service an instrument.
4. I have attached an approximate diagram. In addition to the extension, a hole may need to be punched or expanded in the wall between 1702&1708. There are existing holes to accommodate radiator plumbing and some other utilities.
5. There are large, unshielded superconducting magnets in these rooms, so minimal metal equipment can be present in some places close to the work sites, and FP&M staff will need to consult with CIF staff regarding laboratory/magnet safety requirements when completing the work. The room is a challenging space to convert into a lab space dealing with large laboratory and metal printing equipment, specific electrical demands and other utilities and supplies. The room access is also an issue as at least one of the pieces of equipment will require more than a normal door width. The stated required height of one of the instruments poses a further challenge.
Electrical requirements:
Freemelt – 3 phase, 16 Amp, 400 Volt, Transformer 15 kVA, 22A, 380V, Y (wye) configuration

The 1st and 2nd-floor men's restrooms in Hoover have issues with the way the urinal plumbing is configured. If all three urinals are flushed at approximately the same time, the lowest urinal backs up due to water from the other two flowing downhill into that urinal. Basically the other two urinals have their output tied together, which connects to the output from the lowest urinal, and the combined flow is then wyed into the drain line. This configuration causes the lowest urinal to overflow each time this synchronized flushing occurs, and there is always water from the urinal on the floor in these two men's restrooms now that classes are in session. Rotorooting the lowest urinal has been the thing done in the past, but changing the plumbing so the higher two urinals don't feed together into the output from the lowest urinal would be the only permanent fix that I can see. If there were separate connections from the higher two urinals to the main drain line that were slightl!
y downstream from where the lowest urinal connects to the drainline, it should prevent the water from backflowing into the lowest urinal.

Before insulating all the offices, we'd like to insure this will fix the noise issue by having insulation blown in to 1 wall between office 2345 and 2343, If the holes are drilled near the ceiling, the insulation will be able to settle and still be a good barrier. Drain issue that needs to be turned into a project. We are unable to clear this drain and when we plunge it water comes up around electrical conduits in the vicinity. This leads us to believe that we have a deteriorated pipe under the concrete. This will require a plumbing contractor that has the capability to demo concrete, make the repairs, and replace the concrete. Ben Adams has extensive knowledge about this problem and claims that it has been turned in as a project before.

The Office of Student Information is a new office, and we're slowly moving into the 0273 (and a few other offices and conference rooms) over the next 6-12 months as ORE transitions to ASB.
At the current time, we specifically need furniture for 1 cubicle, #13 in 0273. However, later in the summer we will need to make a few other potential cubicle wall changes to #14 & #15, and we may need to replace some missing desk components in cubicles #6 and #4. I'm unsure if we want this project to focus only on cubicle #13, or if we want to look at the other spaces and do a bit of planning, even though we won't be doing anything with the other spaces until July at the earliest.
Likely in July we will be using a different PG number, maybe that will make a difference in whether we look at just #13 or the others as well.

FPM, Brandon Bartleson worked on this in Mid July and patched the exterior wall but this is still leaking. 293958 was the original work request that has already been closed out. Please look into this farther.
Below the two large skylights in the SE corner of 002, and in the SE corner of the study rooms 003 and 004 after a rain the carpet is always wet from the wall to about 2' out. The wall is not visibly wet or dripping when this happens. We have had issue before judging by the peeling paint and multiple caulking jobs to the glass. This seems to be a foundation issue that needs to be addressed. Area is close to storm drain that has issues holding water or being clogged. See Justin Nolting or Shane Baumler for more information.

1. Add a #2 AWG insulated (green) bonding jumper between the “neutral lug” and “ground lug” in Transformer T2.
2. Add a #2 AWG insulated (green) bonding jumper between the “neutral lug” in Transformer T2 and the ground plate adjacent to Transformer T2. Use a Burndy YGHA2C-2N 2-hole compression ground terminal to bolt the ground wire to the ground plate.
3. Add a #6 (or #2) insulated (green) equipment grounding conductor in the conduit between Transformer T2 and the “Isolated Ground Bar” inside the related circuit breaker panelboard.
4. Remove any ground wires connected between the “neutral bus bar” and the “isolated ground bus bar” (or enclosure) inside the related circuit breaker panelboard.
Electrical contractor to provide all necessary lugs, wire, connectors, etc.. to complete the work.

They require 13 student workstations and 8 FT staff (one with more privacy). Noise and distraction are concerns to be addressed. There are desks that can be reused and incorporated into a panel surrounded layout. They would like to consider updated and dimmable lighting. Currently there is a "walk up" counter that would have to be replicated downstairs. Possibly with an overhead door like the tech lending area on 1st floor. There are large wall monitors (dashboards) to relocate or update along with whiteboards. The room would have to allow for a small break area, printers, 2 computers (to run the monitors) and storage. A stand-up collaboration area would be ideal in the center of the room. Room 0037 would require the door to be moved to access through 0031 instead of into the open stacks. Remove both doors to 2531 hallway and the walls they are in; creating a wider more obvious flow of traffic. One wall, near the receptionist, is drywall. It has a blank cover plate over what might have been a light switch on the reception side. The door is in drywall with 3" on the hinge side and 18" on the latch side to be removed from the floor up to the ceiling so their is no bulkhead. Floor patch required. The other end of this short hallway is a block wall. remove the block and install bull nose bock on both left and right edges. The block will have to be removed all the way to deck above as there is a jog in the wall that is being removed. That is the 18" wide side of the door. The other side of the door that portion is the correct location. A drywall bulkhead may be necessary here due to the ceilings and the jog in the wall being removed. This will also require floor patching. There is a light switch in the block wall on the interior of the hallway that can be relocated to the adjacent drywall. surface.

Craig Abel and Keith Bidne with the USDA/ARS are looking to replace the cage washer that is currently in 612 Science 2. They have a couple of questions about the existing infrastructure before they actually get the new (custom) one ordered.
1. It looks like the current electrical system is set up for 220v, but the new one requires 480v. Can FP&M install that in Science 2? What would that take?
2. The new washer will need 60# of steam pressure to operate. Science 2 is currently set at 30#. Can we safely boost the current setting to 60#?
3. Is it possible to get the floor cleaned and an epoxy coating put in before the new installation? Is that something FP&M does?
4. Does FP&M check the existing vent, damper, and motor for the exhaust? It has not been operational for quite some time.
5. Is there a schematic of the room somewhere to forward to the company ? (electrical, plumbing, etc.)
6. Can we have the drain pipes and floor drains inspected/repaired?
7. Where would we put the old pieces of the washer after demo while we are waiting on the new one? The old one will be picked up the same day the new one is delivered for installation, and there will likely be some lag time due to repairs/upgrades in the space.
They would like an estimate of any costs for changes to the room. For example, if bringing 480V/3 phase to the room is expensive, they may go back to the company building the cage washer to see if 240V is possible, etc. etc.

We have had multiple complaints of excessive noise from the air ducts in both room 1133 and 1118 in SICTR. Both rooms can get noisy enough people cannot hear each other without yelling when the air is flowing. Neither room has a false ceiling and if a wrap or padding added to the ducts in the rooms would not mitigate the noise level, it will likely require a barrier be added between the occupied area of the room and the duct work above.

03/26/2024 - Project Re-Opened with New Scope
The Student Innovation Center would like to resurrect the project listed in the subject line.
The previous estimated cost was $32,050. The bids came in under budget and was awarded to Bergstrom Construction. At that time, we ended up canceling the project because the needs changed.
Now they have a new, exciting use for the space, and they need a lockable door installed. Per the Provost’s direction, they are creating an Artificial Intelligence Innovation Studio for the university. Please plan to fast track this project, so they can get this studio up and running to meet the university’s needs.

Eyewash station in 0209 Sukup needs attention. It takes abnormally long to clear rust particles during the monthly flushing. It is getting worse overtime. At its current condition, it probably requires daily flushing to keep the water clear of contaminants. I believe we need to install a water filter for that specific station. That station situates at the bottom of a straight pipe that connect eyewash stations on the upper floors. Sediments settle to the bottom which is the inlet for that particular station. Frequent flushing is not a long term solution. We need FP M help to install the filter or discuss options to fix the problem.
